CHILD SAFETY SEAT AND BOOSTER SEAT EVENT PLANNED

Date:

LUFKIN – A child safety seat check-up and booster seat event is being planned for Tuesday and TxDOT is encouraging parents to attend who need advice on safely securing their children in a vehicle.

The come-and-go event is planned from 2-4 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 14 at Morris Frank Park, 513 Windsor Drive in Lufkin and is sponsored by TxDOT and Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waco. Technicians will visit one-on-one with attendees and inspect the car seat and vehicle for correct installation.

State statistics show that four out of five child safety seats are used incorrectly. Anyone wishing to have a child car seat or booster seat inspected should make plans to attend.

“If your child complains about the seatbelt not fitting or they are able to slip out of their seat, a visit to the checkup event can help fix those issues,” said Allison Rounsavall, Lufkin District traffic safety specialist. “The correct seat is the one that is the correct size and type for the child and is also properly installed.”

Participants attending the event will learn which type of safety seat is best for their child’s weight and height, how to properly secure the child into the seat and how to properly secure the seat in the vehicle.
