Hey, sports fans,
Believe it or not, our soccer teams are heading into the final couple of weeks of the regular season, and there’s a lot at stake concerning possible post-season berths.
This past week, the Roadrunner men’s soccer team lost a tough match at home, dropping them into a second-place tie in the Region XIV South Zone with five matches remaining in the regular season (including this Friday’s battle with Blinn College, with whom AC is tied in the standings).
The Lady ‘Runner soccer team got the week off, and they’ll also have a pair of key home matches this week. AC’s ladies currently hold the second-place spot in the South Zone.
Our baseball team spent the weekend in Millington, Tennessee while playing several exhibition games, and the softball team had its fall game rescheduled.
The men’s basketball team got off a great start to its scrimmage season this past weekend in Norman, Okla., and the Lady ‘Runners will open their scrimmage season this coming Saturday.
We’re hoping to have basketball rosters ready to post and send out by the end of this week.
We are AC, and we’re ready to Run ‘Em.
Here’s a quick rundown of recent events, along with what’s coming up next:
Roadrunner Soccer Drops Heartbreaker to Coastal Bend CC

Every time the Roadrunners and Coastal Bend Community College meet on the pitch, there’s going to be a real battle. In the teams’ past four matches, the winning margin was a single goal, with a 2-2 draw also in the mix.
On Tuesday, the Roadrunners were the ones coming up a goal short.
The Cougars scored a pair of second-half goals in a seven-minute span to top the ‘Runners 2-1 at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex on the AC campus.
After a scoreless first half, AC’s Angel Benitez found the net in the 50th minute to give the Roadrunners a short-lived 1-0 lead. Coastal Bend then scored in the 68th and 75th minutes and held off a late AC rally to take the win.
The loss drops the Roadrunners (3-3-2, 3-2-2) into a tie for second place in the Region XIV South Zone. Blinn College sports the same overall record, and the lone match this season between AC and Blinn ended in a 2-2 draw.

The top two teams from each zone will qualify for the post-season conference tournament.
The ‘Runners have five matches remaining in the regular season, including a pair of home stands this week. On Tuesday, AC hosts Louisiana State University-Eunice in a women’s/men’s doubleheader starting at 5:30 at Angelina College.
Friday will see AC facing Blinn College in another home doubleheader, with the women kicking off at 5 p.m. and the men following at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Roadrunners Soccer Gets Week Off, Still in Position for Postseason Berth
AC’s ladies had but one match on the schedule for this past week – a scrimmage at Nelson University in Waxahachie – but the match was canceled, giving the Lady Roadrunners a much-needed break considering the number of players battling nagging injuries.
AC (4-6, 4-4) currently sits in second place in the Region XIV South Zone behind Blinn College (6-4, 5-3) with four matches remaining in the regular season.
The Lady ‘Runners can make big progress with a couple of home matches this week.
AC will host Louisiana State University-Eunice Tuesday at 5 p.m. before taking on Blinn College on Friday in another home match starting at 5 p.m.
Roadrunner Basketball Shines in First Scrimmages
The Roadrunner men’s basketball team got its scrimmage season off to a great start this past weekend in Norma, Oklahoma. The scrimmage format (four 10-minute quarters) had the ‘Runners scheduled to play three “games” in one day, and AC showed its depth by knocking off national powerhouse Odessa by a 37-35 final and downing Western Oklahoma State in a 43-31 win. The final game of the day was canceled.
The Roadrunners this Saturday will travel to Duncanville, TX for the GASO JUCO Showcase. AC will face Southwest Mississippi CC (9:10 a.m.), College of Southern Idaho (11:30 a.m.), Murray State College (3 p.m.), and Dallas College-Mountainview (4 p.m.).
AC’s first home scrimmage will take place on Friday, Oct. 16 against Strength ‘N Motion, with tipoff scheduled for 5 p.m. at Shands Gymnasium.
Lady Roadrunner Basketball Opening Scrimmage on Road This Week
The Lady Roadrunner basketball team is ready to get the ball rolling.
AC’s ladies will open their scrimmage season this Saturday as participants in the annual Dave Neely Showcase in Mansfield, TX. The full schedule hasn’t been released yet.
The Lady ‘Runners’ scrimmages will all take place on the road; AC will host Southern University-Shreveport at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 6 at Shands Gymnasium in the team’s home opener.

Potential Schedule Changes:
As always in East Texas, the potential exists for schedule changes because of inclement weather. We try to put out the word as soon as we get it, but the quickest way to confirm game days and times is to visit the AC Athletics website (angelinaathletics.com) to view the most updated schedules. We’ll also send out word on social media (AC Athletics Facebook and Instagram, etc.), but the on-line schedule will always serve up the most recent updates.
Live Streaming Reminder:
All AC Athletics regular-season home games are live streamed on TSBN Sports (a free streaming service for fans), with most of the conference road games also available for streaming. (This does not include baseball and softball fall games, as those are not considered official games.)
Once TSBN posts its schedules, AC fans simply need to visit the AC Athletics web site, look at the scrolling schedule in the middle of the page and click the blue “Video” link.
TSBN also offers an app great for smart phones, devices and smart TVs. (You’ve GOT to see those matches and games on the big screen.)
Reminder II: Admission to ALL Angelina College Athletics sporting events is free, as is the TSBN live streaming. Any other links offering streaming are scams.
Reminder III: For the most current schedule updates (especially for potential weather issues) visit the official Angelina College Athletics website (angelinaathletics.com). Fans can also receive updates on the AC Athletics Facebook, X/Twitter, and Instagram pages.
