CLOSURE ON FM 2497 IN ANGELINA COUNTY TO CONTINUE AHEAD OF REPAIRS

Date:

FM 2497 in south Angelina County will continue to be closed ahead of predicted heavy rainfall due to flooding issues until repairs can be made.

Crews have placed barricades at Cedar Creek on FM 2497 ahead of the last two storm events as officials work to get plans in place for contractors to begin repairs where flood waters have scoured the bridge columns.

“In a recent routine bridge inspection, it was discovered that the underside of the bridge has some minor damage caused by rising flood waters,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the Lufkin District. “The decision was made to close the bridge as a precaution whenever heavy rain is predicted. TxDOT will continue setting barricades until those repairs can be made.”

Motorists are urged to take alternate routes when barricades are in place. It is against the law to move or drive around a TxDOT barricade. Stay alert and reduce speed in and near this work zone once work begins. Motorists could experience daily delays or closures as work progresses.
