Colbert Sheard Receives Woodland Heights’ Nursing Excellence Award

Date:

Woodland Heights Medical Center today announced that Colbert Sheard, RN, has been selected to receive its Nursing Excellence Award.

This peer-nominated award, created in honor of 2020 being the “Year of the Nurse,” and in recognition of the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the COVID pandemic, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.

Colbert was chosen for his outstanding contributions in the areas of patient experiences & innovation, demonstrated team player, mentor to the healthcare team and a leader during a crisis.

“Woodland Heights is fortunate to have many outstanding nurses like Colbert among its ranks. Nurses who deliver exemplary care, compassion and service, who understand the importance of teamwork and mentoring others, who can lead in times of crises, and who are true champions of promoting healthcare in our community,” said Debra Taylor, Chief Nursing Officer of Woodland Heights.  “With so much focus this year on the selfless efforts of front line heroes like Colbert, we are pleased to acknowledge the important contributions of our nursing professionals.”

Colbert joined Woodland Heights in June 2013 and in that time has positively touched so many lives. He constantly receives positive praise from our patients and other team members and exemplifies all of the qualities that one would want in a nurse. He has received numerous awards including the 2019 Nurse of the Year and the 2020 Velma Scott Award and he shows every day that he truly loves what he does.

In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Colbert received a cash prize and quintessential book on nursing, written by Florence Nightingale in 1859, that remains relevant to today’s modern nursing attitudes and skills.
