Dana Smithhart was named the 2016 recipient of the Jack O. (Butch) McMullen Silver Spike Award at the First Friday Luncheon presented by the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce.
“She was very involved with her children from elementary through high school, often involved in Parent-Teacher organizations, raising money for playgrounds, for books, for anything that involved children,” said Jeff Todd, 2015 recipient of the award and Vice President of The Advanced Financial Group.
Smithhart is a graduate of the 1988-89 Leadership Lufkin class and was described as a “very willing, very organized volunteer.”
“She has also been very involved in Leadership Lufkin and is a former employee of the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce. She has also been involved in the Expo Party and other Chamber events as well,” Todd said. “I couldn’t think of a more deserving recipient. It’s long overdue.”
“Thank you all so much. It is an honor to be up here, in that group of people,” Smithhart said. “I am humbled and thank you so much for the opportunity. It’s not work, it’s not a job; it’s been my life. I love Angelina County, I love Lufkin, I love this community. Thank you.”
Smithhart has been a community leader, often serving in local charities and events. She is very active in her church, First United Methodist Church, by serving on committees and with children’s activities.
“She is a mother of two children and was very involved with her children from elementary through high school,” Todd said, “often involved in Parent-Teacher organizations, raising money for playgrounds, for books, for anything that involved children.”
