Drug-Free All Stars Meet with Representative Trent Ashby

Date:

In preparation for the start of the start of the 89th Texas legislative session, three Drug-Free All-Stars met with Representative Trent Ashby to share information on topics that directly impact high school students. Jaydn Burns, Diboll High School, discussed the e-cigarette tax loophole and the issues she sees with e-cigarettes and youth in our area. Sidnee Thompson, Lufkin High School, spoke about alcohol-to-go and super-sized “alcopops” and the dangers both pose for Texas youth. Marco Andrade, Central High School, shared information about the consequences of the authorization in 2019 of hemp and hemp-related products, and the proliferation of harmful, intoxicating cannabis products in our area.  The Coalition, Inc. would like to thank Representative Ashby for meeting with these students and listening to the problems that affect them and other students in Texas. Special thanks also to The Coalition’s Board members Breanna Murphy and Stephen Pinkney for helping with the meeting.

Since 1988, The Coalition has focused on eliminating the use of harmful substances by affecting public policy, laws, attitudes, and behaviors, all to foster healthy life-long choices for the local community.
