East Texas Communities Foundation is currently accepting applications from East Texas students for seventy scholarships to be awarded for the 2020-2021 academic year. The deadline for submission varies and is clearly marked on the applications.
New this year, applicants can use an online matching tool to help determine which scholarships they are most likely eligible for and to access the applications. All applicants should use the General Matching Tool while students majoring in visual arts, art history, music, music education, theater, or dance should also use the Arts Matching Tool. Six new scholarships have been established this year including:
Barbara Bass Community College Scholarship: established to honor Barbara Bass’s years of service as mayor of the City of Tyler. Applicants must be first generation college students, residing within the Tyler city limits and planning to pursue an associate’s degree. Amount: $1,250, renewable.
Dr. Scott Cooper Nursing Foundation Scholarship: established by Donald Scott Cooper to encourage students from Gregg, Rusk, and Smith Counties who plan to major in nursing. Amount: $1,000.
Edna Faulk Haberle Visual Arts Scholarship: The Edna Faulk Haberle Visual Arts Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to students planning to major in visual arts. While students from the namesake’s hometown of Jacksonville, Texas will be given preference, the scholarship is open to applicants from several East Texas counties. The Haberle family created this scholarship to honor Mrs. Haberle on her birthday in 2019. Amount: $500.
Robinson Family Memorial Scholarship: The Robinson Family Memorial Scholarship was established to benefit students at Lovelady High School and Bedias, Texas residents attending Madisonville High school. Amount: $500.
Tatum Music Scholarship: Tatum Music Company has served East Texas school band programs for over 70 years, meeting the needs of both student musicians and area music educators. Several former
outstanding band directors have owned Tatum Music Company throughout its history. The current owner, Doice Grant, established this scholarship fund to benefit future instrumental music educators. Amount: $400.
Wayne & Margie Morrison Scholarship: The Wayne and Margie Morrison Scholarship Fund was established in 2019. The Morrison’s believed in always paying it forward and established this scholarship to benefit Smith County graduating seniors attending a four-year college or university in East Texas. Amount: $4,000.
