Game Preview: Stephen F. Austin to host Chicago State on Thursday

Stephen F. Austin hosts Chicago State in a Western Athletic Conference (WAC) bout Thursday at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.

This is the first time SFA and CSU will meet as WAC opponents.
 
The two programs last played over 20 years on November 23, 2001 with the Cougars winning 51-42 at a neutral site game played in Auburn, Alabama.
 
Ladyjacks in Midst of 11-Game Winning Streak
 
SFA has won 11 games in a row and have started 10-0 in WAC play. Overall, the Ladyjacks are winning games be an average of 21.8 points.

One reason why the Ladyjacks are 10-0 in conference play is its balanced offensive attack.
 
Senior and 6-foot-3 post presence Aiyana Johnson is averaging a team-high 14 points per game while shooting 56.6 (110-for-195) from the floor. Johnson is taking it to a different level in conference play with an average of 17.1 points per game. She is also averaging 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
 
Fellow senior Stephanie Visscher is providing offense in the backcourt and averages 13.7 points per game to go along with a team-high 60 steals. Visscher is averaging 2.7 steals per game.
 
Junior Zya Nugent is averaging 10.9 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while Sophomore Avery Brittingham is averaging 10.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.
 
Offense Runs Through Brianna Mitchell
 
The quarterback of the Ladyjacks’ offense runs through senior Brianna Mitchell. The Marshall, Texas has handed out a team-high 83 assists and averages 3.8 assists per game. Mitchell is averaging 8.2 points and 2.5 steals per game.
 
Turning Defense into Offense
 
The Ladyjacks force their opponents into mistakes and have forced 541 turnovers. On average, SFA forces its opponents into 24.6 turnovers per game, which is turned into an average of 25.9 point scored off turnovers.
