Governor’s Community Achievement Awards Open to East Texas Communities

Date:

Keep Texas Beautiful (KTB) is holding an East Texas Roundtable webinar on December 16 to provide information about the 2021 Governor’s Community Achievement Awards program and assist communities who wish to participate. DETCOG encourages communities in our region to participate in the webinar and consider submitting an application for the program.

Participants will learn more about how to apply for the awards program when the application process opens in January 2021. KTB staff will introduce the program, walk participants through the application process, and answer questions. They can also match first-time applicants with a mentor to help guide them along through the application process. Even those communities which have participated in the past will benefit and learn about updates and changes to the application process.

Ten winning communities will share $2 million from TxDOT that is used for landscaping projects along TxDOT rights-of-way. Communities compete against other like-sized communities in seven different topic areas: community leadership and coordination, public awareness and outreach, environmental education, beautification and community improvement, litter prevention and cleanup, solid waste management, and litter law and illegal dumping enforcement. Applications open in January each year.

The East Texas Regional Roundtable is offered at no charge. The online event will be held Wednesday, December 16 from 10 am to 11:30 am. You may register by clicking on the following link: GCAA East Texas Roundtable Registration.
