Marco’s Pizza in Lufkin is hosting a speed dating event from 9:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. Thirty spots are available to singles ages 21-30.
Singles will be able to connect with one another over wine and pizza tastings during 3 minute “dates.” I spoke with Marco’s Pizza Co-Owner Chasity Boatman about the event. Here are her answers.
Why Speed Dating?
“We’re always trying to be innovative in the events that we bring to Lufkin. Speed dating events are held in larger cities like Houston and Dallas, so we wanted to bring a speed dating event to Lufkin. I read a lot of comments on social media of people complaining that there’s nothing to do in Lufkin for recent college graduates and other people in their twenties. We believe that this speed dating event is meeting a need for those people in Lufkin.”
Why Should People Come?
“Dating in someone’s twenties can be complicated. Many people are starting their careers and don’t feel comfortable dating in the workplace. Others don’t feel comfortable meeting someone over virtual dating apps. Some people may just have not found any recent success in the dating scene. The speed dating event at Marco’s Pizza is a fun and safe space for singles to meet other local singles. Singles will get to enjoy wine and pizza samples. They also will only be talking to other individual singles for three minutes at a time, so there’s no pressure if a connection isn’t there. Even if they don’t find a Valentine for Valentine’s Day, they get to enjoy a different and unique experience in Lufkin on a Saturday night.”
Will You Be Holding This Event Again?
“If enough people show an interest, we would like to make this an annual event. Since we posted about the event, we’ve had several people state that they would come to a speed dating event for age ranges 30-40. So that’s something that we’re considering for the future.”
