Meeting Signals New Construction in Polk County

Date:

LUFKIN – A pre-construction meeting was held Wednesday at the Livingston Area Office that signals the beginning of a construction project in Polk County.

Contractors and TxDOT employees gathered to discuss and determine a timeline for the construction project that will include safety improvements consisting of the installation of cable median barriers for a total of 34.8 miles, from the city of Corrigan to the city of Shepherd.

The work zone speed limit through this work zone is set at 60 miles per hour and is enforceable when work begins. Motorists should be prepared to reduce speed to 60 mph from the normal 75 mph throughout the project.

The $5.4 million project will be divided into three sections and is scheduled to begin Dec. 17 and is expected to be completed in Aug. 2026, weather permitting. Scout 5 Construction LLC, Gilmer, TX will serve as contractor for the project.

As the project begins, motorists are urged to stay alert for closures that will be required to install the cable barriers through the median. Cable barriers enhance the safety of the roadway and the traveling public.
