Older Americans Month Celebrated With Mayfest 2016

Date:

The Area Agency on Aging of Deep East Texas and 2-1-1 Texas will be celebrating May as Older Americans Month with their “Mayfest” on, Thursday, May 19th.

The day will include a walkathon, health fair, games of “42”, bingo, entertainment and lunch.  Mayfest will be held at Lufkin’s Pitser Garrison Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The theme for this year’s Mayfest is “Blaze a Trail” with participants being encouraged to start their day with a walkathon, sponsored by Adult Protective Services, that begins at 9:00 a.m. from Regions Bank, 203 S. First Street.  A health fair and entertainment begins at 10:00 a.m. at the civic center.

Games of “42” and bingo will start shortly thereafter. Lunch will be provided for those involved in the activities.

Over five-hundred people participated in last year’s Mayfest and even more people are expected this year.  Anyone with questions about the event are encouraged to contact Donna Sprouse at (800) 256-6848 or (409) 384-7614.
