AC Athletics Weekly Update

Date:

Roadrunner Baseball:

The Roadrunners opened the week with a huge home sweep of Navarro College on Tuesday, beating the Bulldogs 2-1 and 5-4 at Poland Field. AC pitcher Elian Balmaceda struck out 12 in earning the complete-game win in the opener, and a bevy of pitcher combined to beat Navarro in the nightcap.

On Friday, however, the ‘Runners dropped both games of the doubleheader against Bossier Parish Community College, falling 7-2 and 8-7. Luke Haas, Landon Roque and MaCrae Kendrick homered in the loss.

Lady Roadrunner Softball:

The Lady Roadrunners spent the week on the road (again, this is why there are no pics from this week’s games). At Blinn College on Wednesday, AC lost 7-4 before bouncing back for a 15-5 win in five innings. Madi Baker and Sara Mayes homered for AC in the doubleheader.

On Friday, the Lady ‘Runners dropped a 1-0 squeaker before taking a 12-2 win in five innings in the nightcap. Bailey Frenzel and Sara Mayes blasted bombs for the Lady Roadrunners.

Poland Field Dedication:

On Friday, Angelina College officials held a dedication ceremony renaming the AC baseball field “Poland Field” after long-time, late board members Robert Poland, Sr. and Robert Poland, Jr. With Poland family members and other well-wishers on-hand, the ceremony took place just before AC’s doubleheader with Bossier Parish Community College.

Robert Poland, Jr.’s grandson Caleb Poland McCusker threw out the ceremonial first pitch before Friday’s games.

This Week’s Games:
