Angelina College Athletics Weekly Update

Date:

Greetings all, and welcome to another year of Angelina College Athletics. I hope your summer was great, and I hope you’re ready to get back into the swing of everything.

Our AC athletes are back on campus and hitting the practice fields already. On Sunday we held our annual Meet the Roadrunners banquet, and this Friday marks the opening weekend of Lady Roadrunner and Roadrunner soccer.

Here’s a quick rundown for you:

Meet the Roadrunner Banquet:

Sunday’s annual Meet the Roadrunner Banquet brought together our student-athletes and their families in one big gathering. There was a slide show/recap of a phenomenal 2022-2023 year at AC Athletics (including two teams – men’s soccer and softball – qualifying for national tournaments in the same year for the first time in AC history), and a challenge from president Dr. Michael Simon to “Beat that!”

Head coaches then brought their players forward for introductions and comments about the upcoming seasons.

The Roadrunner Foundation hosted the event, while Raising Cane’s sponsored and provided the meal.

AC Soccer Teams’ Open Season on Friday

With the NJCAA soccer season opening every August, players don’t get a ton of time to prepare, especially considering they don’t arrive on their respective campuses until the very beginning of the month.

Nevertheless, both the Lady Roadrunners and Roadrunners will kick off their 2023 campaigns this Friday, September 1 at Northeast Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant.

The Lady ‘Runners, under first-year head coach Orlando Cervantes, kick-off at 2:30 p.m., and the Roadrunners and first-year head coach Martin Melchor follow at 5 p.m.

Both teams will play their home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 5 against Paris College. Game time is 5 p.m. for the Lady Roadrunners and 7:30 p.m. for the Roadrunners.

A tailgate party will take place before the games. Contact Brett Reeves (mareeves@angelina.edu) for more information.
