Angelina College Athletics Weekly Update

Date:

AC Soccer Teams:

Angelina College’s soccer teams had a big week, with both the women and men earning wins on Tuesday and Friday.

On Tuesday, the teams traveled to Brownsville to face Texas Southmost College. The Lady Roadrunners used three goals from Marlene Flores to notch a 6-1 win. Ana Rendon, Tannia Diaz, and Camilla Bedin each scored a goal in the win.

The Roadrunner men followed with a 5-1 win over Southmost. Luan Rangel netted a pair of goals, with Liam Anderson, Filliph Kamfjord, and Christian Castaneda also finding the back of the net in the win.

Friday featured a home doubleheader against Jacksonville College, and again the AC teams broke out the brooms for a sweep. The Lady Roadrunners used goals from Flores (her 12th of the season), Bedin, and Estephany Aguilar to notch the 3-0 win. Goalkeeper Claire Valentine turned in several clutch saves while the back line ensured the Lady Jaguars wouldn’t get many opportunities on the AC end of the pitch.

The Lady ‘Runners wished fan Rylie Skinner a “Happy Birthday” in pre-game ceremonies. Rylie served as the honorary ball girl, making her pic with the Lady ‘Runners and receiving a signed ball from the team.

The Roadrunner men followed with an equally impressive defensive effort, blanking Jacksonville’s Jaguars 3-0 behind goals from Kaito Ueki, Omar Mora and Christian Castaneda. Keeper Viktor Hojbjerg finished with a pair of saves, a testament to the AC defensive effort that kept the Jaguars from crossing midfield for most of the match.

The Lady Roadrunners (5-2-1) travel to Blinn College on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. start. The Roadrunners (6-0-2) follow on Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. match against Blinn’s Buccaneers.

Both AC soccer teams will be off on Friday before hosting a pair of home doubleheaders next week.

Roadrunner Basketball:

The Roadrunner men’s basketball team got the opportunity to beat up on someone other than itself when the squad headed off to Fort Worth for a series of weekend scrimmages.

AC went 3-0 for the weekend, including a win over the No. 4 team in the nation.

The ‘Runners will practice all week before hosting a home scrimmage against Jarvis College at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at Shands Gymnasium.

Lady Roadrunner Basketball:

AC’s ladies held their Media Day this past week, and because they’re in a hurry to show off their skills, the team scheduled a home scrimmage for this upcoming week.
