Showcase Spotlights Top 100 NJCAA Basketball Players

Having had his first attempt at a sophomore season derailed with injuries, Kanaan Holder is off to a big start for his upcoming season.

Holder, the current Angelina College and former Hudson product, has been selected to participate in this weekend’s All-American JUCO Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia. The event serves as a spotlight of sorts for the Top 100 junior college basketball players in the nation.

Holder proved a valuable asset for the Roadrunners throughout his freshman season back in 2022-2023, with his all-around game producing 8.7 points (second on the team), 5.2 rebounds (second on the team), and 2.42 assists per game (second on the team) while helping the Roadrunners to a berth in the Region XIX Conference Tournament. His efforts led to an All-Conference selection at the end of the season.

What would have been his sophomore season (2023-2024) ended before it began, with Holder suffering a pair of season-ending injuries. Despite opportunities to move on, Holder remained a Roadrunner as the team begins revving up for the upcoming 2024-2025 season.

“This is a great accomplishment for Kanaan and Angelina College basketball,” AC head coach J.J. Montgomery said. “We wish him the very best in Atlanta.”

Holder is the son of Tammy and Tony Holder of Lufkin.
