AUSTIN – State Representative Trent Ashby (R-Lufkin) has been selected to serve on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Public Education during the 89th Legislative Session. Rep. Ashby will also serve as the Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Academic & Career-Oriented Education.
The Committee on Public Education has jurisdiction over bills regarding public school systems, state programming of elementary and secondary education, and proposals to create or change school districts. The Committee also oversees state agencies such as the Texas Education Agency, the Texas representatives to the Education Commission of the States, the State Board for Educator Certification, and others. The Subcommittee on Academic & Career-Oriented Education has jurisdiction over all matters relating to vocational, career, and technical training.
“I’m grateful to Speaker Burrows for the opportunity to serve on the House Committee on Public Education and Chair the House Subcommittee on Academic & Career-Oriented Education,” said Ashby of his committee appointments. “Education will be a top priority this session, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to prioritize public schools, teachers, and students while also expanding workforce opportunities to promote future economic growth and prosperity.”
The House Committee on Natural Resources has jurisdiction over the conservation and development of water resources across our state. The 11-member Committee also regulates all local water-related entities, such as groundwater conservation districts, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and the Texas Water Development Board.

Trent Ashby is in his seventh term as a member of the Texas House of Representatives. He currently represents a six-county region that includes Angelina, Houston, Polk, San Augustine, Trinity, and Tyler Counties.
