The Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce’s weekly newsletter is out, and it has a run of things worth putting on the calendar — a bingo night for stray animals, a pumpkin craft that isn’t carving, two songwriters at Camp Street and a movie party in November.
Bingo for the strays, then steaks
Stesti Beer Garden in Lovelady hosts Benefit Bingo at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, with the proceeds going to PETS — People for the Ethical Treatment of Strays — which works with animals across Houston County. Dinner runs 5:30 to 9 p.m. that night.
Steak night follows Friday, Oct. 16 and again Saturday, Oct. 17, dinner both nights 5:30 to 9 p.m. The beer garden asks you to call ahead and reserve your steaks. Stesti’s is at 720 S. Commerce in Lovelady, 936.636.9267.
Pumpkins, and a local mystery writer
Crazy 4 Books & Coffee has a pumpkin decoupage night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22. Fifteen dollars gets you a pumpkin and every supply you need, and no one expects you to have done it before. The shop is also putting out its specialty coffee dessert flights that evening for $25, ordered separately. Space is limited.
Two days later, on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 9 a.m., local author Nancy Polk Hall signs “Death at Brookhaven,” a cozy historical mystery, at the same shop. Crazy 4 Books & Coffee is at 311 East Goliad Avenue in Crockett, 936.209.4016.
Camp Street’s back-to-back weekend
Camp Street Cafe & Store has Scott Sean White on Friday, Oct. 23, doors at 6 p.m., and Ben Gage on Saturday, Oct. 24, doors at 5 p.m. Both shows are $22 and both are BYOB. The cafe is at 215 South Third Street in Crockett, 936.544.8656.
A movie, and a new roof
On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Ritz Theatre hosts a Greenlight Party for “Texas Sins,” a crime thriller from the writer, director and producers of “The Beast of Trinity Texas.” Doors open at 3 p.m. The cast, director, producers and casting director will all be there, and the team is taking applications from people who want to work as background actors or to put their house or business in the movie. The Ritz is at 620 East Houston Avenue, 936.544.4276, ritztheatrecrockett.org.
Elsewhere in town, MidCoast Medical Center — Crockett is getting a complete roof replacement after years of leaks and patch jobs. The hospital credits the Houston County Hospital District Board and Mid Coast Health System for getting it funded. MidCoast is at 1100 East Loop 304, 936.546.3891.
One more, for anyone who needs it: VitalCaring Hospice runs a free grief support group the first Thursday of every month, 6 to 7 p.m., at 600 East Loop 304 in Crockett. Jacky Lewis, the chaplain and bereavement coordinator, takes calls at 936-545-0320.
