DPS Opens Driver License Office in Hemphill

Date:

As of Sept. 30, Hemphill now has its own Department of Public Safety Driver License Office.

The Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw joined local officials for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new office Sept. 30, and the office opened officially to the public Monday, Oct. 3.

Two people will man the office located inside the Sabine County Annex Building at 213 Market St. in Hemphill. The office is part of a program created in response to SB 1729 and then was expanded under SB 1756 the following year. The bill authorizes DPS to enter an agreement with a county commissioners court to give county employees the authority to provide more services at a county office, including issuing driver’s licenses.

Customers are encouraged to use the online services for driver license and ID card renewals available at Texas.gov or at 1-866-357-3639. The fee is the same for online, in-person, and telephone renewals.
