GEEK Convention Comes To Lufkin

Date:

Local game store, Gamer’s Hollow, is hosting booths from the GEEK convention from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at their store on First Street in Lufkin.

The GEEK convention is a mini-con that was supposed to come full force to the area but was derailed for several unrelated reasons. Now, however, a few of their booths are setting up in the Gamer’s Hollow store. There are very few comic, gaming, and nerdy conventions that come through East Texas, so this is an exciting event.

GEEK is sponsoring a cosplay contest, and con-goers are encouraged to get more information from the store and come dressed as their favorite characters.

“This is our first venture like this,” Gamer’s Hollow owner Heather Barney said. “We are hoping to bring the community together to meet each other and have some fun!”

Local artists are invited to show off their talents during the convention. Anything an artist wishes to be sold can be brought to the con and sold on commission. Gamer’s Hollow is especially looking for artists who like to paint Warhammer miniatures, sew or make leather goods or game merchandise, and artists in the gaming and middle ages genre.

Many games will be played during the con, and people will be on hand to teach others how to play the different games. An X-Wing tournament will be going on during the con, as well. The East Texas Ghostbusters will be making a special appearance.

Marco’s Pizza will be available at 5 p.m., and the first 50 who get to their table will get free pizza.

“It’s a chance for businesses to say hello and for game fans and cosplay fans to see what’s available to them right here in Lufkin,” Barney said.

The event is free to the public, and no registration is required. Some booths will be outside in the parking lot, and extra parking will be available in front of DP Solutions and the Dive Shop.

If you are someone you know would be interested in contributing to the con or participating in the convention, you can contact Gamer’s Hollow at 936-899-7005.
