The T.L.L. Temple Library is inviting area youth and adults to go on an adventure this summer and participate in its annual summer reading program. Recently, Georgia-Pacific donated $2500 in funding to help the library expand its resources, which includes new books, online services, and summer youth activities that encourage reading. “Research shows that it is critical for children to continue to read even after the school year ends,” said Justin Barkley, Executive Director of the T.L.L. Temple Library. “Students can actually fall behind academically by as much as three months if they do not continue reading on a consistent basis.”
Education is one of the key focus areas that the Georgia-Pacific Foundation supports financially. “We have a great library in Diboll that has a collection of close to 50,000 holdings, including audiobooks, magazines, and DVDs that patrons can enjoy,” said Yana Ogletree, Georgia-Pacific Public & Government Affairs Manager. “The library has something for everyone, and the Georgia-Pacific Foundation is proud to partner with the library to offer area residents a local resource for literature.”
Established in 1960, Diboll’s first public library opened with a modest 1200 donated books and an operating budget of $800 raised by the Friends of the Diboll Library. Today sixty years later the library continues to serve the area thanks to public support, contributions and grants from local companies and foundations.
