Lady Roadrunner Softball Opens Conference Play on Wednesday

Date:

After fielding an entire team of new faces for the 2016 season, the Angelina College Lady Roadrunner softball team quickly is beginning to jell.

Winners of 11 of their past 12 games, the Lady ‘Runners are coming off a five-game sweep of this past weekend’s Regional Crossover Tournament in Longview.

Over the weekend, AC faced a few conference rivals, although the tournament contests were considered non-conference affairs. AC beat Blinn College 12-4, Alvin College 3-2, Lamar State College-Port Arthur 8-6 and Galveston College 5-3.

In AC’s 11-3 win over Laredo, the Lady Roadrunners blasted five homers. In the win over Alvin, Taylor Davis homered twice, including a two-run shot and solo homer. Kayla Boucher launched a grand slam in the win over Lamar State-Port Arthur.

AC’s ladies are also serving notice to the rest of the nation: The Lady Roadrunners are ranked nationally in nearly every offensive category, including walks (1st), sacrifice flies (1st), runs batted in (3rd), extra base hits (4th) runs scored (5th), doubles (6th) and hits (12th).

For their conference opener, the Lady Roadrunners (17-8) will face Kilgore College (11-12) on Wednesday. The doubleheader at AC’s Roadrunner Complex is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

Angelina College’s Taylor Davis, shown here collecting a hit against Vernon, blasted two homers and accounted for every AC run in the Lady Roadrunners’ 3-2 win over Alvin College in this past weekend’s Regional Crossover Tournament in Longview in which AC went 5-0. The Lady ‘Runners host Kilgore College at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the conference opener for both teams.
