Lady Roadrunners Pull Away from SU-Shreveport

McMahon Scores 25 in AC Win

The Angelina College Lady Roadrunners used a 10-0 run late in the second quarter to distance themselves from Southern University-Shreveport, using the scoring spree to pull away for an eventual 74-63 win Tuesday night at Shands Gymnasium.

AC’s India McMahon and Lanaijha Johnson combined to score the final 13 points in the first half, with both players leading the team to the win. McMahon finished with a team-high 25 points, while Johnson flirted with a double-double with 19 points and nine rebounds. Shanice Ferguson added 11 points and five boards, Maria Andrade pulled down 13 rebounds and Alannah Nerocker dished out 13 assists.

Ikeia Brown led the Lady Jaguars with 17 points. 

The Lady ‘Runners (3-3) will play host to the Angelina Classic at Shands Gymnasium this weekend, with six teams competing on Friday and Saturday. 

The Classic’s schedule is as follows:

Friday, Nov. 15: SWCC vs. LSU-Eunice, 2 p.m.; Western Gulf CC vs. Tyler JC, 4 p.m.; 

Lady Roadrunners vs. McLennan College, 6 p.m.  

Saturday, Nov. 16: Tyler JC vs. McLennan CC, 12 p.m.; Lady Roadrunner Basketball vs. LSU-Eunice, 2 p.m.

Gary Stallard
Sports Information Director Gary Stallard, who also serves as a Liberal Arts Instructor, begins his eleventh season with Angelina College. Following a career as a U.S. Marine, Stallard completed his bachelor’s degree at Stephen F. Austin University, where he majored in English and Journalism. For more than 16 years, he has worked as a sports writer/columnist/photographer for the Lufkin Daily News; he continues to contribute free-lance articles on occasion. Stallard has won several awards for writing, including the Golden Hoops Award for basketball writing in 2003, Regional Sports Writer of the Year in 2004, and the Texas Press Association’s first-place award for column writing in 2007 and in 2014. He has also done basketball, football and baseball radio and live streaming play-by- play and color commentary for an ESPN affiliate. Currently Stallard serves as play-by-play broadcaster for AC basketball, baseball and softball games. Prior to arriving at Angelina College, Stallard taught English at Lufkin High School for four years. He currently teaches Developmental Writing classes at AC. He and his wife Susan live in Lufkin.
