Lufkin District Construction Updates

Below is a description of the work planned for July 13 through July 17 in the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Lufkin District.

Project timelines are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.  

Area Office Projects

Lufkin Area Office (Angelina, Houston, and Sabine counties)

Angelina County

  • US 59, Redland Project.
    Excavation, embankment, and bridge foundation work will continue for the northbound frontage road. Cement treatment will be applied to the northbound frontage road and main lanes. 
  • FM 324, bridge replacement and roadway rehabilitation.
    Concrete barriers will be set up, and work will be performed on driveways and bridge components. Traffic will need to follow a pilot car in the area.  
  • US 69, cable median barrier.
    The contractor will install cable barrier south of Zavalla and US 59 south of Livingston. Lane closures will occur.  
  • State Loop (SL) 287, auxiliary and turn lanes.
    Driveway work will occur.

Houston County

  • SL 304 overlay.
    Slope and shoulder work will continue, requiring intermittent lane closures.  
  • FM 2076, rehabilitation and roadway widening.

The contractor will treat and sealcoat the roadway, resulting in daily lane closures. 

Livingston Area Office (Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity counties)

Polk and San Jacinto counties

  • US 59, cable median barrier.
    The contractor will continue tightening the cable barrier. 

Polk County

  • US 59, Corrigan Relief Route.
    Crews will continue setting expansion joints and deck panels, and tie reinforcing steel for the main lane US 287 bridge, and the north railroad bridge. Dirt work is ongoing at the north and south tie-ins. Bridge rail and signage will be installed at various locations. 
  • FM 2610 at Menard Creek.
    The contractor is working on approaches and will install guard fencing.  
  • County-road bridge projects.
  • Piney Creek on Carmona Road: column preparation will continue. 
  • Long King Creek on Old Bearing Road: crews will prepare for and pour bridge decking. 

San Jacinto County

  • US 59, Shepherd to Cleveland upgrade to interstate standards.
    The contractor will set beams for an overpass bridge. Temporary seeding, mowing, and prime coating will continue.   
  • SH 156, Stephen Creek bridge replacement.
    Drill-shaft rebar forms will be assembled.   
  • SH 150 sidewalk project.
    Crews will perform excavation ahead of sodding and project-area cleanup. 

Nacogdoches Area Office (Nacogdoches, San Augustine, and Shelby counties)

Nacogdoches County

  • US 59 intersection improvements at SL 224.
    Demolition of old pavement will continue. 
  • SH 7 and CR 724, Moral Bayou bridge project.
    Removal of the bridge detour will take place. 
  • SH 21, safety treatment

Hot mix application along West Main Street/BU 21 in Nacogdoches will continue. 

Sabine County

  • US 96, road rehabilitation
    Soil improvement work will continue. A culver will be installed along FM 1. Daily lane closures are expected.  

Shelby County

  • County road bridge projects. 
    Permanent sod will be installed. 

Reminder to Motorists
Drivers are urged to remain alert in work zones, obey posted traffic controls, and watch for construction crews and equipment. Remember to move over or slow down to 20 mph below the posted speed limit when passing or approaching TxDOT vehicles, law enforcement, and other vehicles with activated overhead lights on the side of the road.
