Nearly 200 Golfers Compete To Benefit Angelina College In Guy Davis Golf Tournament

Date:

With the Ninth Annual Guy Davis Golf Tournament set to tee off at Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin on Saturday, the tournament field has reached nearly 200 players spread across five-man teams – and there’s still room for more.

The tournament offers an opportunity for community members to interact with Angelina College athletes, who serve in various roles such as cart drivers, scorekeepers and others.

Tournament organizers are currently seeking more teams and hole sponsors for the five-man scramble format, scheduled for shotgun starts of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Hole games and prizes include Hole-in-One (for a 2016 Toyota Tundra and for a $10,000 prize), long-drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, with prizes for those events as well.

A Calcutta for the tournament is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, August 19, also at Crown Colony, with a silent auction featuring various sports collectibles and other valuable items.

Proceeds from the tournament go to the Angelina Roadrunner Foundation in support of Angelina College athletics, in addition to providing scholarships to area students. Donations are tax deductible.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Current sponsors for this year’s event include Brookshire Brothers (the presenting sponsors for every Guy Davis Golf Tournament over the past eight years), First Bank and Trust of East Texas, Loving Auto Group, Lufkin Coca Cola, Bancorp South, Goodwin Lassiter Strong, Judge Wes Suiter and Dr. Cheryl Suiter, Joe McCleskey of Angelina Excavating, Carroway Funeral Home and Renfro Sausages.

A registration form and information flier can be located by visiting the Angelina College web site at www.angelina.edu and clicking on the Athletics link.
