The Salvation Army of Lufkin is putting on a “Behind the Red Kettle” luncheon at noon Monday, Nov. 2, at its corps building at 412 S. Third St. Lunch is provided.
The hour is a look at how the Lufkin corps gets ready for the holidays, and at where it needs help. Four programs are on the agenda: the Angel Tree, the Red Kettle Campaign, volunteer openings and Community Christmas.
Those are the pieces that carry the corps through December. The Angel Tree matches donors with local children for Christmas gifts. The Red Kettle Campaign is the bell-ringing drive outside stores, and it needs more hands than any other part of the season.
[[Editor: confirm before this runs whether the luncheon is open to the public. It reached us as an invitation rather than a release, and it asks people to RSVP by replying to the sender’s email — which a reader can’t do. Jaylen Sowell, (936) 634-5132, can confirm and give an RSVP phone number.]]
Jaylen Sowell is community relations and development coordinator for the Lufkin corps, which is part of The Salvation Army’s Texas Division. Reach him at (936) 634-5132 or at 412 S. Third St., Lufkin.
