The Angelina College Roadrunner baseball team picked up a pair of wins in Tuesday’s doubleheader in Wharton, sweeping the Pioneers by 18-7 and 2-0 scores.
Reid Garrett pitched three scoreless innings relief in Game 1 to earn the win; and Daniel Lingua earned the win in the nightcap, with Cody Cash coming on late to earn the save.
AC’s offense erupted with 20 runs in the two games, with Mitch Henshaw going 5-for-8 with a homer and three RBI. Mitch Andrews went 4-for-6 with a homer and three RBI; and Chris Estrada drove in five runs with three hits in six trips, with one of those hits a homer.
The ‘Runners’ offensive display helped crank the team batting average to a whopping .324 over the first eight games of the season. The team now has six homers in eight games, with Andrews accounting for two of those.
The Roadrunners (4-4) play a twin bill at Tyler College on Saturday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
