AC’s Relay for Life Presents Check to American Cancer Society

Date:

Angelina College’s Relay for Life group capped a year’s worth of fund-raising events with a recent check presentation to the American Cancer Society of Angelina County.

The group presented Paige Reynolds of the ACS-AC with a check totaling nearly $4,000 raised via such activities as the Coaches vs. Cancer athletic events, a year-round raffle, t-shirt sales, the annual Kiss the Pig contest and the Dress the Prez Day at AC.

AC sponsors Suzi Honeywell and Tonya LaForge also received trophies for their groups’ efforts: A first-place trophy for t-shirt design and a second-place trophy for the Race to Recovery.

Honeywell credited AC students with helping make the year a success.

“Students from the Business and Professional Speaking classes were primarily responsible for all the leg work involved, all the printing and distribution of the fliers, collecting the money for the Kiss the Pig and Dress the Prez contests. They also delivered t-shirts around the campus to everyone who ordered them. They were an amazing group this year, and I’m so proud of them.”

Honeywell also praised Dana Smithhart for helping Relay for Life return to the Angelina College campus.”

“AC had not participated for years, and Dana and I had worked together on the Lufkin Panther Football Mother’s Club,” Honeywell said. “When someone mentioned AC hadn’t been involved in Relay for Life in a while, Dana basically volunteered me.”

Following this year – her second as a sponsor – Honeywell will relinquish her duties to LaForge.
