Angelina College Athletics Weekly Update

Date:

As we wind down toward the end of the semester, Angelina College Athletics’ teams are making sure they end 2023 on a high note.

The Lady Roadrunner basketball team rolled to a big win on Tuesday, and the Roadrunners nearly capped a miraculous rally against nationally ranked Panola College on Wednesday.

Both AC basketball teams will close out the semester this week.

Following is a recap, along with upcoming events.

Lady Roadrunners Pound Western Gulf CC

AC’s ladies took care of business with a non-conference home game on Tuesday, with the Lady ‘Runners running to a 74-34 win over Western Gulf Community College at AC’s Shands Gymnasium.

Amyria Walker led the Lady Roadrunners with 22 points, followed by Alicia Rivera-Scott with 12 points (on 4-of-9 shooting from three-point range) and Marie Kenembeni with 11 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Roadrunners (7-6) cap off the 2023 year with a home game against Ranger College on Wednesday, December 13 at Shands Gymnasium. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.

Roadrunners Push No. 18 Panola College to Limit

Blame it on the new basketball goals inside Shands Gymnasium.

Or maybe just chalk it off to a rough shooting night for the Roadrunners.

The AC men got off to a horrid shooting start during Wednesday’s Region XIV matchup against conference foe (and 18th-ranked) Panola College, only to battle back to nearly pull off the last-second victory.

Instead, the No. 18 Ponies held off the Roadrunners by a 51-50 final score. Cade Holzman led AC with 11 points, followed by Patrick Johnson with 9 points and Nehikare Igiehon with eight points.

The Roadrunners (8-3, 1-2) are on the road this week, taking on McLennan College in Waco at 7 p.m. on Monday before closing out the semester with an away game at Temple College on Friday, Dec. 29. Game time in Shands Gymnasium.

That’s about it, sports fans. I’ll send another update next week, but that will close out the semester (and the 2023 year) for Angelina College Athletics.

I’ll see you at the games.
