How will the new Department of Labor’s new overtime rule impact your business?

Join the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce for an informative session about the changes business owners and managers need to know concerning the Department of Labor’s new overtime rule for salaried employees. Guest speaker Scott Skelton with Skelton Slusher Barnhill Watkins and Wells PLLCĀ will discuss how this change will effect your business.

The new overtime rule goes in to effect on December 1, 2016.

Museum of East Texas Art Camp

May 31 – August 19

Come join the Museum of East Texas for Art Camp! Classes are available for students ages 3-14 in a variety of media. Each session of Art Camp meets Monday through Friday for a half day (9 a.m. – 12 p.m. or 1 – 4 p.m.). Scholarships are available.

SFA Summer Movie Series

Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Wednesdays at 2 p.m.

The Student Activities Association at Stephen F. Austin State University hosts a Summer Movie Series on Tuesday nights and Wednesday afternoons.Ā While the community is always welcome to our year round movie program, the summer is designed for families and children! Join us at the Baker Pattillo Student Center 2nd Floor Theater Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Wednesdays at 2 p.m. for a show! Cash only Concessions available : $1 items and $2 combo pack (drink, popcorn, and a candy).

Tickets available: day of, 1 hour prior till showtime.

Makerspace Camp, Week Two

Wednesday through Friday, July 20 – 22, from 2Ā – 3Ā p.m.

For the second year, the library will host a daily maker camp for those interested in DIY, making, creating, crafting, hacking, tinkering, and learning. New projects will be presented each day at this drop-in program. Kids can come to one or all of the daily workshops.

Ages 8 years and up. No registration is necessary.

March for Brenda

Saturday, July 23 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

This walk is created to bring awareness to the murder of Brenda Maxie Hardiman by a young juvenile, and some believe justice was not received in her case.

Makerspace: Tech Salvage Jewelry

Monday, July 25, 5:30 – 6:40 p .m.

This Hackathon will provide us with lots of leftover pieces from chips, to wires, to scrap metal. Learn how to recycle odds and ends to create cool and clever jewelry.

Ages 10 years and up. Please register by July 23.

Picnic in the Park

Tuesday, July 26, 3 – 5 p.m.

Bring a blanket and food for the family, and join us for story time and games at the library. Bring along some friends, too! We will have a deliciously fun time, without the heat. No bug spray required. All ages welcome.

Carranza Puppet Show

Wednesday, July 27, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Carranza Puppets will be at Livingston Municipal Library with a new hand puppet program called “The True Story of Little Red Riding Hood.” This wonderful version of an old favorite may teach you to hear both sides of a dispute before you decide who is right! It is told from the wolfā€™s point of view. Partake of a bit of fantasy as the story reveals ā€œwhat really happenedā€ with much humor and audience participation.
