Milling Begins On Northbound Side Of SL 287 East

Date:

LUFKIN – Milling in northbound lanes of SL 287 East in Lufkin began Friday with the final surface scheduled to begin on the east loop next week.

Both southbound lanes were opened Friday after milling was completed. Drewery Construction, contractor for the emergency project, is scheduled to work through the weekend to mill northbound lanes.

The work is necessary to prepare SL 287 East for the final surface to be placed beginning on Wednesday, weather permitting.

“We are pleased the work is progressing as quickly as it is and the weather is cooperating,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer. “We are looking forward to the final surface application being completed, hopefully next week and traffic returning to normal in both northbound and southbound lanes.”

Motorists are urged to be cautious and reduce their speed through this work zone as crews continue to prepare the East Loop for its final surface application. Obey all signage and do not cross into lanes or entry/exit ramps that are barricaded or coned.
