LUFKIN – Three pre-construction projects were held in the Lufkin Area Office this week signaling the beginning of new construction projects.
SH 287 is set for a bridge replacement at Beaver Creek in Houston County that will include the bridge construction and new bridge approaches. MP Heavy Construction, Inc., The Woodlands, Tx, will serve as contractor for the $8.9 million project. Crews are scheduled to begin work Jan. 2025.
SH 21 in Sabine County is scheduled for construction to install turn lanes on SH 21, just west of the Sabine River Bridge. Texas Materials Group, Cedar Park Tx, will serve as contractor for the $1.9 million project that is scheduled to begin in January 2025.
Also scheduled for construction will be various recreational areas, at Mission Tejas, the Wildlife Management Area in Alazan that will include the restoration of the access road, and repair nearly a mile of “bottom” road. Work will also include the restoration of the Toledo Bend Wildlife Management access road. These projects will include seal coat at office entrances, parking lots, and compound asphalt for the construction of new access/entrance roads, the construction/restoration of RV pullouts, park roads, parking lots, and campsite pullouts. Drewery Construction Company, Nacogdoches, Tx, will serve as contractor for the $1.5 million construction project that is scheduled to begin in January, 2025.
As these projects begin, motorists are urged to stay alert, reduce speed near the work zones, and obey all traffic control.
