Chairman James White Joins Effort to Combat Underage Drinking

Date:

State Representative James White is teaming up with the Texas Hospitality Association (THA) to fight underage drinking and to promote alcohol responsibility through a statewide poster contest that will award four 2017 graduating high school seniors $10,000 in educational scholarships.

THA will award a $5,000 scholarship to the Texas high school senior who submits the best poster conveying the message or theme: “If you are under 21, it’s illegal to consume or purchase alcoholic beverages in Texas.” A $2,500 scholarship will go to 2nd place, $1,500 for 3rd and $1,000 for 4th. The winning posters will be used in a statewide alcohol awareness campaign.

“I am very excited about involving Southeast Texas high school seniors in developing a message that will combat underage drinking and remind all Texans of the need for alcohol awareness,” Rep. White said. “I encourage Southeast Texans to apply for this opportunity every year and look forward to seeing what entries they submit this year.”

The contest is open to all 2017 Texas high school seniors and artwork must be an original design that is either electronically generated, hand drawn, or photographed. All entries must be received no later than Friday, May 5th, 2017.
