ETCF Extends East Texas Giving Day Through May 4

Date:

East Texas Giving Day has been extended through 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 4th to allow donors to show their full support for area nonprofits. East Texas Giving Day was building significant momentum Tuesday morning when unforeseen technical difficulties slowed online giving.

“Today’s situation reminds me of poet Robert Burns’ famous quote ‘The best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men often go awry’”, said Kyle Penney, President of East Texas Communities Foundation, which hosted East Texas Giving Day.  “Our area nonprofits did a great job of promoting their cause and directing donors to the site. Despite significant pre-event testing by our technology partner, the generosity of East Texans and many other donors throughout the country took its toll on the giving day computer systems.”

East Texas Giving Day, powered by East Texas Communities Foundation (ETCF), aims to raise one million dollars in charitable donations for nonprofit organizations across East Texas. The public can support their favorite registered charities by making online contributions at EastTexasGivingDay.org through 5 p.m. on Wednesday May 4th.

“The good news is East Texans are very generous and are not easily deterred from supporting their favorite charities,” Penney said. “This event is all about supporting our local nonprofits and computer malfunctions will not thwart our efforts! We want to strongly encourage area residents to get online today before 5 p.m. and give.”
