AC Soccer Teams Hosting Tyler on Wednesday

For the past two weeks, Angelina College’s soccer teams have maintained their positions in the national rankings. Despite the Lady Roadrunners and Roadrunners winning several matches on the road during the two-week span, neither group has been able to advance.

“It’s because the teams ahead of us haven’t lost, either,” AC head coach Nataki Stewart said. “We just have to keep doing what we’re doing, especially with the post-season looming ahead of us.”

The rankings could change considerably after this Wednesday, however, as the No. 5 Roadrunners and No. 11 Lady Roadrunners host Tyler Junior College’s No. 2 Lady Apaches and No. 6 Apaches. Both matches take place at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex on the AC campus.

In the teams’ earlier matches in Tyler, the Lady Roadrunners dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker in double overtime, while the men pulled out a thrilling 3-2 win over the Apaches.

AC’s teams have been on the road since Sept. 21, with the Lady Roadrunners taking road wins against Northeast Texas Community College (2-0), Jacksonville College (1-0), No. 9 Navarro College (2-1) and Trinity Valley Community College (a 20-1 win). Liliane Clase leads the Lady ‘Runners in goals scored (12) and points (30); Marlene Flores is right behind her with 10 goals and 24 points. AC’s defense is allowing a miniscule .45 goals per match.

The AC men still haven’t lost a match despite losing several key players to injury. After a 1-1 draw at home against Coastal Bend CC on Sept. 14, the ‘Runners have bounced back with wins at Paris College (1-0), NTCC (1-0), Jacksonville (4-2) and TVCC (6-0). Juan Lopez continues to lead the attack with nine goals and 28 points, and a greedy defense is allowing just .90 goals per match.

Kickoff for Wednesday’s matches will take place at 5 p.m. for the women’s match and 7:30 p.m. for the men’s match. The game features an “Orange Out” where fans are asked to wear orange in support of the AC teams. The first 100 kids to sign up for the “Rowdy Kids’ Club” will receive free “Orange Out” t-shirts.

Admission to both matches are free.

Mystic Masquerade Ball (Jasper County)

0

Tickets to the Mystic Masquerade Ball include dinner, dancing, and the opportunity for us to share the progress we’ve made through RHN, our non-profit organization.

The Mystic Masquerade Ball is a FORMAL, BLACK-TIE event requiring black tuxedos for men and long, formal gowns or ball gowns for women.

As RHN works to garner support for our mission, address the issue of homelessness in rural areas, and bring awareness to local communities, the Mystic Masquerade is our most important event of the year. We have limited seating, and Masquerade Masks (not COVID masks) are required as we set the evening’s tone by the following assertion:

“Behind every mask there is a face, and behind that, a story …”

The homeless – especially those in rural areas – are largely masked from our view and our thoughts. Many were once filled with hope and promise, only to be knocked down by tragedy, discouragement, or other negatives in life. Some were successful professionals, some never had much of a chance; but all deserve the love of Christ. RHN will offer them hope and dignity, beginning with Veterans Village, a community of Tiny Homes for homeless Veterans, and expanding with many other programs and projects to address homelessness and near-homelessness.

More information about the Mystic Masquerade Ball is included, and we ask you to share the information with as many people as possible. Tickets are $100 each or you can reserve a private table of eight for your friends and family for $800. They can be purchased through our website, www.rhnetwork.org, as well as by calling the number at the bottom of the flyer. Your ticket ensures an unforgettable night of truly meaningful fun that will make a real difference in the lives of those most in need.

0

The public can bid on the trees, including all décor on them, with all proceeds going to the Pineywoods Safe House and the Jasper Animal Shelter

The Jasper/Lake Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce is planning a community event to bring both residents and visitors together to celebrate the holidays. Join us on 11/29/22 from 4-6 to view the decorated trees. The event is free and open to the public. Children can meet Santa, get a picture with the man in the red suit himself, and families can enjoy a cup of cocoa.
Local businesses will be decorating the trees and they will be auctioned off. The proceeds will be split evenly amongst the two non-profits.
The auction will be online for a week. Potential bidders can view the trees (online/in-person) and then place bids. All trees will be on display at the Chamber of Commerce. Winning bidders will take home the entire tree.

The Jasper/Lake Sam Rayburn Chamber of Commerce encourages everyone to support the auction with a bid on one of these beautiful trees.
To learn more about the event, and/or how to participate in it, contact Carissa Garcia at (409)384-2762 or jaspercc@jaspercoc.org.
