Information will be provided on screwworm biology, prevention and treatment strategies

In response to the growing concern about the New World screwworm, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a webinar on June 9 to provide more information to agricultural producers and the public.

AgriLife Extension experts will be joined by Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostics Laboratory and Texas Animal Health Commission veterinarians to discuss the importance of New World screwworm awareness and prevention.

This fly poses a serious threat to livestock and wildlife because it deposits eggs into the wounds of living animals. These larval infestations can infest any living mammal, including pets and humans.

AgriLife Extension is furthering its educational outreach with the public webinar, after releasing a new fact sheet.

Leadership Lesson: Grace Isn’t Always Fair—And That’s OK

In Matthew 20:1–16, Jesus tells a parable about a landowner who hires workers throughout the day—some early in the morning, others just before quitting time. At day’s end, he pays them all the same. The ones who worked longer grumble, thinking it’s unfair.

But the landowner responds: “Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?”

Recently, I waived the fees for a project. A manager questioned the decision—not because it was unethical, but because it wasn’t “fair” to others who paid full price. I understood the concern. But leadership requires more than policy enforcement. It requires discernment, wisdom, and sometimes grace.

As the business owner, I have the right—and the responsibility—to make decisions based on values, relationships, and long-term vision. Not every choice fits a spreadsheet. Sometimes generosity serves a greater purpose than uniformity.

True leadership isn’t about treating everyone the same—it’s about doing what’s right in each situation, even when it doesn’t look “fair” to others.

Don’t confuse fairness with justice. And don’t confuse policy with purpose.

Hey, sports fans,

The big news of the week is our Lady Roadrunner basketball team has a new head coach – one with a proven record in both athletics and academics. 

I’m also including (again) the AC men’s soccer released its full schedule of instructional and ID camps for the summer. I’ve added an easy link and graphic containing that information.

Here’s a quick rundown of the past week’s events, along with what’s coming up next: 

Lady Roadrunner Basketball Names Lees Head Coach  

The Lady Roadrunner basketball team has a new head coach, and while she may be new to Angelina College, by no means is she a new face to Region XIV. 

AC earlier this week named Addie Lees the new Lady ‘Runner head coach. Lees coached at Kilgore College for a few years before moving on to coach at the NCAA level. She’s posted winning seasons while also boasting high academic performances from her players (including several Academic All-Americans).

Roadrunner Soccer Sets Summer Camp Schedule

Along with the already-announced Camp Roadrunner youth camps for Summer 2025, the Roadrunner men’s soccer team has added both a Developmental Camp and an ID Camp to its list.

The Developmental Camp for players ages 8-14 will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. June 26-27 at the AC Soccer facility at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex. 

The ID camp, used to identify prospective future Roadrunners, is for grades 9-12 and will take place from 6-8 p.m. on August 1 at the same location.

AC’s Camp Roadrunner Sessions Set for Summer 2025

Over the past few years, Camp Roadrunner has become a “gotta do” event for youngsters throughout East Texas, with the recreational and youth sports camps drawing bigger crowds every summer. 

To view the available sports camps and locate the links for registration, visit https://www.angelina.edu/camproadrunner/ and look for each specific sport. 

Following are the dates for each Youth Sports Camp:

Baseball: June 2-5

Soccer: June 9-12; July 7-10

Basketball: June 9-12

Softball: June 9-12

Live Streaming Reminder: 

All AC Athletics regular-season home games will be live streamed on TSBN Sports (a free streaming service for fans), with most of the conference road games also available for streaming. (This does not include baseball and softball fall games, as those are not considered official games.)

Once TSBN posts its schedules, AC fans simply need to visit the AC Athletics web site, look at the scrolling schedule in the middle of the page and click the blue “Video” link. 

TSBN also offers an app great for smart phones, devices and smart TVs. (You’ve GOT to see those matches and games on the big screen.)

Reminder II: Admission to ALL Angelina College Athletics sporting events is free, as is the TSBN live streaming. Any other links offering streaming are scams.
